Pastured Pork
Meetze Farm at Huckabee Mill raises our pigs on pasture in a similar way to our chickens. To begin with, we raise heritage breed pigs. We've found them to be higher in quality and better tasting. Our pigs are kept in a wooded pasture and moved about every 6 weeks onto a new wooded pasture. They forage and root for bugs, worms, grasses nuts and roots to serve as a more natural diet. We provide plenty of clean, fresh well water for the pigs to enjoy.
Most production pork is raised in a confinement house where they are exposed to pools of manure and no fresh air or sunshine. The difference can been seen in the color of our meat and noticed in the texture on the plate.
